Tired of fussing with hook and loop straps to secure the flight pack in your Flex RV-8? Wish you could easily secure LiPo packs in exactly the same place every time? This Quick Release Battery Kit is the solution. It's light, it's strong, and it's easy to install.
Designed for 5000 to 6000 mAh LiPo packs and 3D printed at high resolution in PETG filament, the complete kit weights only 70 grams. After removing the stock hook and loop straps the total weight increase is less than 50 grams. The printed parts are also strong. The Battery Tray and Retainer were impact tested using an 800g LiPo pack and withstood more than 27 negative g. And with the included
instructions and drill template, mounting takes less than 15 minutes.
How It Works
The Kit consists of three components: Battery Tray, Retainer, and Nut Strips. The flight pack is attached to the Battery Tray with double sided tape (not included) between the upper surface of the Battery Tray and the bottom of the flight pack. Then two single layer strips of filament-reinforced tape (not included) are used to secure the pack to the Tray.
The Retainer is secured to the plywood deck in the model. Because the plywood deck in the Flex Innovations RV-8 is just 3mm thick, it's too thin to hold wood screws or blind nuts. So the included Nut Strips are placed under the plywood deck. They provide broad clamping force when the M3 screws are installed through the Retainer and engage the M3 Nylock nuts in the Nut Strips.
The Battery Tray has two flexible Release Tabs with a catch feature that engages a mating feature in the Retainer. Sliding the Battery Tray into the Retainer causes the Release Tabs to flex and then engage the catches in the Retainer. Squeezing the Release Tabs together releases the catches and allows the Tray to slide back out of the Retainer.
