Long Lifting Tubes for your Gear Jacks

All Gear Jack models ship with standard 6" long lifting tubes. They work well for many aircraft sizes but for larger airplanes, and especially when using Wing Tube supports, you may need longer tubes.

With the exception of the Lifting Tube Tangs, Gear Jack Lifting Tubes are nothing special. They're simply 1/2" EMT (thin wall electrical conduit) that you can buy at home improvement stores most anywhere. If you want to make your own Lifting Tubes, it's easy. Here's how:

  1. Using a steel rod or similar blunt end shaft long enough to reach the back end of the Lifting tube Tang, drive the Tang out of the existing Lifting Tube. It will be quite tight, so take your time with many small taps of a hammer.
  2. Cut the new length of EMT and deburr both ends with a file or sand paper
  3. Align the rear end of the Tang on the end of the new Tube and carefully tap the Tang into the Tube until it seats. Take care when driving the Tang into the Tube to keep it straight. Lots of small taps are better than whacking really hard.
  4. If the tang does not feel tight, remove it and apply some glue (CA, epoxy, or other waterproof glue) to the inside of the Tube and re-install the Tang.
  5. If all that seems like a pain, you can just buy new Lifting Tubes and get back to flying. :)

Kit includes:

  • 2 11" Lifting Tubes with Lifting Tube Tangs pre-installed

With out a doubt, Gear Jacks are the best solution out there to secure my $3000 plane. I have total trust that Gear Jacks will not let my plane fall off of a shelf mounted in my I inclosed trailer while driving down bumpy highways. The support is the best out there. Here is a good example of Random Heli giving us an alternate less expensive way to make extension arms instead only buying there products! You made a loyal customer out of me.  Many RC pilots walk up to my trailer admiring how my planes are secured inside the trailer. I always let them know where I bought them and how well they work.
